Investigating gene and microbiome profiles in gum diseases
Transcriptome, Proteome and Microbiome Profile in Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases
This study is trying to see how genes and bacteria in the mouth are related to gum diseases like periodontitis and peri-implantitis in adults to help improve diagnosis and treatment.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the transcriptomic and microbiomic profiles associated with periodontitis and peri-implantitis. Patients aged 18 and older with defined cases of these conditions will undergo a thorough examination, including tissue biopsies from affected sites. The study will assess gene expression and microbiome characteristics to better understand the underlying mechanisms of these diseases. The findings could lead to improved diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for managing periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with defined periodontitis at two non-adjacent teeth and peri-implantitis at one or more implants.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone surgical intervention for periodontitis or peri-implantitis in the last six months or have used antibiotics during that time may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding and treatment of periodontal and peri-implant diseases, leading to better patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of transcriptomic and microbiomic profiling in this context may be novel, similar studies have shown promise in understanding periodontal diseases.
