What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and its short-term and long-term consequences for both mothers and their offspring. It aims to establish a cohort of pregnant women diagnosed with GDM and follow their health outcomes, including risks of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and other health issues in both mothers and children. The study will collect biological samples and monitor various health parameters over time to better understand the implications of GDM. By systematically tracking these outcomes, the research seeks to identify potential interventions to mitigate risks associated with GDM.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women diagnosed with gestational diabetes who plan to deliver at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center.
Not a fit: Patients with pre-gestational diabetes or chronic health conditions such as hypertension or kidney disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved health outcomes for mothers and children affected by gestational diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown significant associations between gestational diabetes and long-term health risks, indicating that this approach is supported by existing research.
