What this trial studies
The IVF Offspring Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study aims to explore the short- and long-term health effects of assisted reproductive technology (ART) on mothers and their offspring. This observational study collects data on various factors including environmental, occupational, and lifestyle exposures, as well as health outcomes in later life. Biological samples such as blood and tissue are also gathered from participants to better understand the implications of ART. The study addresses concerns regarding potential health risks associated with ART, including increased cancer risks in mothers and chronic diseases in IVF offspring.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women under 20 weeks of gestation who have conceived through assisted reproductive technology and plan to deliver at the Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center.
Not a fit: Patients who conceived naturally or those who do not intend to remain in Guangzhou for at least three years may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the health risks associated with ART, leading to improved care and outcomes for mothers and their children.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have indicated potential health risks associated with ART, suggesting that this cohort study builds on existing knowledge but focuses on a specific population in Guangzhou.
