What this trial studies

This observational study aims to investigate the differences in cerebral blood flow and oxygen metabolism influenced by various types of anesthesia in patients requiring clinical MRI. Eligible participants, aged from birth to 18 years, will undergo an extended MRI procedure to gather additional data on cerebral hemodynamics. The study will ensure that all standard anesthesia safety protocols are maintained throughout the process. Informed consent will be obtained from all participants before their involvement in the study.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients aged between birth and 18 years who are scheduled for a clinically indicated MRI and can tolerate the procedure.

Not a fit: Patients with MRI-incompatible devices, those unable to tolerate the MRI environment, preterm infants less than 25 weeks, or those clinically unstable for an extended MRI will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of anesthesia's impact on brain function, potentially leading to improved anesthetic practices for pediatric patients.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is observational and builds on existing knowledge, similar studies have shown promise in understanding the effects of anesthesia on cerebral hemodynamics.
