What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the impact of nutritional counseling on patients diagnosed with schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder. Participants will undergo an initial assessment of their nutritional status, biochemical, and anthropometric measurements. Half of the participants will receive nutritional counseling for six weeks, while the other half will not receive any treatment during this period. After the intervention, the control group will also receive the counseling, allowing for a comparison of outcomes between the two groups.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old diagnosed with schizophrenia, psychosis, or bipolar affective disorder.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could help improve the quality of life and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in patients with severe mental disorders.
How similar studies have performed: While few studies have explored the effects of nutritional counseling in this population, the approach is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
