What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the incidence of gastric cancer (GC) associated with atrophic gastritis in a region known for high GC rates. It will involve esophagogastroscopy procedures to assess the severity of gastric mucosal atrophy and intestinal metaplasia, which are significant risk factors for developing GC. The study will collect biopsies following the updated Sydney system recommendations to ensure accurate data collection and analysis. By understanding this relationship, the study seeks to provide insights into early detection and prevention strategies for gastric cancer.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 18 to 80 who have atrophic gastritis and are willing to provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of gastrectomy or severe systemic diseases or malignancies may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance early detection and prevention strategies for gastric cancer in at-risk populations.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated a strong correlation between atrophic gastritis and gastric cancer, suggesting that this approach is supported by existing literature.
