What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify clinical and histological factors that contribute to the development of gastric cancer in patients diagnosed with intestinal metaplasia (IM) and atrophic gastritis (AG). It employs a two-part retrospective approach, utilizing clinical data and pathology analysis to develop a machine learning algorithm for predicting future gastric cancer risks. The study will analyze data collected from a cohort of patients within the New Territories East Cluster over a 20-year period, using advanced imaging techniques for histological evaluation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with a histological diagnosis of atrophic gastritis or intestinal metaplasia.
Not a fit: Patients without a histological diagnosis of atrophic gastritis or intestinal metaplasia may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enable early identification and risk stratification of patients at high risk for gastric cancer, leading to improved monitoring and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing machine learning for cancer prediction have shown promising results, indicating potential success for this novel approach.
