What this trial studies
This study examines the effectiveness of a personalized health coaching intervention for individuals awaiting lung transplantation. Participants will receive up to 12 coaching sessions via phone over a 12-16 week period, aimed at improving their self-management and overall health outcomes. The intervention group will be compared to a usual care group that only receives standard pre-transplant education and care. The goal is to determine if health coaching can enhance patient-reported outcomes in this population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who are waitlisted or deferred for lung transplantation at participating Mayo Clinic or University of Washington locations.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old, non-English speaking, nonverbal, or those who are extremely hard of hearing may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved health outcomes and quality of life for lung transplant candidates.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with health coaching interventions in similar patient populations, suggesting potential for success in this approach.
