Evaluating robotic surgery for inflammatory bowel disease

Robotic Inflammatory Bowel Disease Development, Learning and Efficacy Study

Observational University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust · NCT06579443

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of robotic surgery for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. It will focus on determining the optimal robotic setup for performing multi-quadrant operations and will compare clinical outcomes between robotic and traditional laparoscopic surgical techniques. The study will include patients aged 18 and over who are undergoing minimally invasive surgery for IBD, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of robotic surgery's role in this context.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and over who require minimally invasive surgery for inflammatory bowel disease.

Not a fit: Patients who are planned for open surgery or cannot provide informed consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance surgical outcomes and recovery for patients with inflammatory bowel disease.

How similar studies have performed: While robotic surgery is a growing field, this specific approach to IBD surgery is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
