What this trial studies

This observational study aims to create a comprehensive database to better understand young onset colorectal cancer, defined as cases diagnosed in individuals under 50 years old. Researchers will collect information through a risk factor questionnaire from participants diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer and those diagnosed with colorectal adenocarcinoma over the age of 50. The goal is to analyze similarities and differences between young onset colorectal cancer and cases diagnosed later in life, facilitating current and future research in this area.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 18-49 diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer or those aged 50 and older diagnosed with colorectal adenocarcinoma.

Not a fit: Patients with known hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes or a history of inflammatory bowel disease may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of young onset colorectal cancer, potentially enhancing patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is focused on a specific age group, similar registry studies have shown success in understanding cancer epidemiology and risk factors.
