What this trial studies
This study aims to detect kidney disease early in children through urine and ultrasound screening within a natural population cohort of about 10,000 children in Jiangsu Province and Shanghai. The project focuses on establishing a risk prediction system specifically for children's kidney disease, which currently does not exist for the Chinese population. Children identified with abnormal results will be referred to the Children's Hospital of Fudan University for further examination and treatment. The approach utilizes non-invasive methods that have been successfully implemented in Shanghai for over a decade.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are live newborn infants from the specified regions, regardless of their physical condition.
Not a fit: Patients who decline the screening or are missing from follow-up will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to earlier detection and better management of kidney disease in children, improving long-term health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Similar screening approaches have shown success in other populations, but this specific risk prediction system for children's kidney disease is novel.
