What this trial studies
This protocol involves screening individuals with and without substance use disorders (SUD) to assess their eligibility for participation in ongoing clinical research at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Participants will undergo a comprehensive evaluation process that may last up to 8 hours, during which data will be collected to understand drug use behaviors and develop potential treatments for SUD. The study aims to create a registry of participants interested in future research opportunities and to enhance the understanding of the effects of SUD on various organ systems.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 18 years and older, whether they currently use substances, have previously used them, or have never used them.
Not a fit: Patients who lack the capacity to consent to research participation will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatments for individuals struggling with substance use disorders.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in using similar screening and evaluation approaches to enhance understanding and treatment of substance use disorders.
