What this trial studies
The Nanshan Elderly Cohort Study (NECS) is a community-based prospective cohort study aimed at understanding the impact of nutritional, environmental, and genetic factors on chronic diseases among elderly residents in Nanshan, Shenzhen. The study will recruit approximately 10,000 to 20,000 healthy individuals aged 65 and older who have lived in the area for more than five years. Participants will undergo face-to-face interviews, anthropometric measurements, and various health assessments every three years to collect comprehensive data on their health and lifestyle. This research seeks to identify key factors contributing to conditions such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy Chinese residents aged 65 and older who have lived in Nanshan, Shenzhen for at least five years.
Not a fit: Patients with serious chronic diseases such as confirmed cardiovascular disease, liver or renal failure, or cancer will not benefit from this study.

Inclusion Criteria: * Age: ≥ 65 years; * Living in Nanshan, Shenzhen for at least 5 years; * Chinese. Exclusion Criteria: * Had a history of hospital-confirmed diabetes, failure(s) of heart, liver, or kidney, cancer, CVD events; * On special diet due to a disease or weight control; * Mental and physical disability; * Likely to move to other city within 5 years; * Did not want to attend any one item of the survey or sample collection.
