Investigating new blood tests for diagnosing memory disorders

The Swedish BioFINDER - Memory Clinic Study

Observational Skane University Hospital · NCT06122415

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of newly developed blood biomarkers for diagnosing memory-related conditions such as mild dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Conducted at the Memory Clinic of Skåne University Hospital in Malmö, it will involve 1200 patients who will provide blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples. The study will compare the diagnostic accuracy of blood tests against traditional cerebrospinal fluid tests to determine if blood tests can serve as a more cost-effective and patient-friendly alternative. The results will be assessed in a three-step process by the attending physician to gauge the impact on clinical decision-making.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals undergoing clinical evaluations for cognitive symptoms at the Memory Clinic who are scheduled for cerebrospinal fluid and blood sampling.

Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing cerebrospinal fluid or blood sampling as part of their clinical practice will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate and accessible diagnostic methods for patients with memory disorders.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using blood biomarkers for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease, suggesting potential success for this approach.
