Impact of weight loss on fat tissue signaling in muscles

Effect of Weight Loss on Intermuscular Adipose Tissue (IMAT) Signaling

Not applicable Interventional University of Colorado, Denver · NCT06129110

What this trial studies

This intervention focuses on understanding how weight loss affects the molecular signaling of intermuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) in individuals with obesity. Participants will undergo a 12-week dietary intervention aimed at weight loss, with assessments including body composition, blood tests, strength testing, and thigh muscle biopsies before and after the intervention. The study aims to determine how inflammatory molecules from IMAT contribute to muscle insulin resistance and how these molecules change following weight loss. Outcomes will be compared between those who successfully lose weight and those who do not.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are generally healthy men and women aged 18-70 with a BMI between 30-40 who engage in less than 1 hour of exercise per week.

Not a fit: Patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, thyroid disease, or those currently undergoing menopause may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved strategies for managing obesity-related insulin resistance and muscle weakness.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results in understanding the relationship between weight loss and metabolic health, making this approach both relevant and potentially impactful.
