What this trial studies
This study investigates how leaderboards and daily motivational messages affect the learning and engagement of medical students using a gamified dermoscopy training app. Participants will be randomized into groups to receive different combinations of leaderboard visibility and motivational messages over a seven-day training period. The app features a library of over 10,000 skin lesions and provides instant feedback on diagnostic quizzes. The primary focus is on improving diagnostic accuracy and self-regulated learning through gamification techniques.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are medical students enrolled at Danish universities who have completed a university-level course on histology.
Not a fit: Patients who have prior experience with the Dermloop Learn app or equivalent dermatology training platforms may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance the training and diagnostic skills of medical students, leading to better identification of skin cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While gamification in medical education is gaining traction, this specific approach using leaderboards in dermoscopy training is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
