What this trial studies
This study aims to enhance sun protection behaviors among children living in rural communities in Utah and West Virginia to prevent skin cancer. It employs a novel, multi-level intervention delivered through developmental baseball leagues, targeting both children and their parents. The study will utilize a two-arm cluster-randomized design to assess changes in sun protection behaviors among participants. By focusing on underserved populations, the research seeks to establish effective, evidence-based strategies for skin cancer prevention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include children aged 3 and older who live in rural communities in Utah or West Virginia and participate in local sports leagues.
Not a fit: Patients who do not reside in rural areas or do not participate in sports leagues serving rural communities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly reduce the incidence of skin cancer among children in rural areas.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited evidence-based research specifically targeting this demographic, similar interventions in other populations have shown promise in improving sun safety behaviors.
