Acute pancreatitis after percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy: a retrospective analysis

Retrospective Analysis of Acute Pancreatitis After Percutaneous Mechanical Thrombectomy In Treatment Of Thrombotic Disorders (The RATIO Study)

Observational RenJi Hospital · NCT07450898

What this trial studies

This retrospective observational project reviews adults treated with percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy at RenJi Hospital to identify cases of acute pancreatitis occurring within 14 days of the procedure. Researchers will determine incidence, grade severity, examine patient and procedural risk factors, and record clinical outcomes. The team will analyze procedural details (including rheolytic devices such as AngioJet), labs, imaging, and hospital course from chart review to develop a diagnosis and treatment pathway. The work uses existing records and informed consent where required for additional data collection.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) who underwent percutaneous mechanical thrombectomy for thrombotic peripheral vascular disease at RenJi Hospital and developed acute pancreatitis within 14 days, and who can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients whose pancreatitis has a confirmed alternative cause (such as gallstones, alcohol, or hyperlipidemia), patients treated outside RenJi Hospital, pediatric patients, or those unwilling/unable to participate are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians recognize and treat post-thrombectomy pancreatitis sooner and reduce related complications.

How similar studies have performed: Only isolated case reports have described pancreatitis after mechanical thrombectomy, so no large systematic studies exist and this complication remains largely untested at scale.
