What this trial studies

This observational study assesses body weight changes among male prisoners in Martinique by comparing their weight at admission to their weight three months later. It also examines factors such as physical activity levels, nutritional intake, and psychological state to understand their impact on weight variation. The study aims to fill gaps in existing research regarding weight changes in incarcerated men, particularly in a region with higher rates of obesity and diabetes. Participants will complete self-questionnaires and undergo anthropometric measurements during their medical consultation upon admission.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are male prisoners aged 18 to 44 who are newly admitted to the Martinican jail and can provide consent.

Not a fit: Patients who are female, over 44 years old, or do not speak French or English may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the health implications of incarceration on body weight and inform interventions to improve the well-being of prisoners.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on weight changes among male prisoners, previous studies have shown varying results in different populations, indicating that this research could provide novel insights.
