What this trial studies
This interventional program enrolls adults who intentionally lost ≥7% of their body weight in the past six months and had a BMI ≥27 before their loss. Participants complete baseline body measurements and surveys, receive a study scale, and join a 26-week program of regular educational texts or emails and weekly online check-ins with at-least-weekly self-weighing. The intervention is adaptive: participants who show signs of weight regain may receive tailored re-engagement support and some participants will be offered health coaching during portions of the study. Outcomes are measured by repeated assessments at the end of the intervention to determine whether the approach prevents weight regain.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults who intentionally lost at least 7% of their body weight within the past six months, had a pre-loss BMI ≥27, can use a smart device, and can obtain clearance from their primary care provider.
Not a fit: People who are pregnant or within 12 months postpartum, have uncontrolled medical or psychiatric conditions, recent eating-disorder treatment, are food-insecure, or are planning bariatric surgery are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could help people maintain weight loss over the long term and reduce the need for more intensive treatments.
How similar studies have performed: Prior research on digital self-monitoring, regular weighing, and coaching has shown modest benefits for weight maintenance, but fully adaptive, tailored re-engagement models remain under active testing.
