What this trial studies
This pilot study investigates the feasibility and effectiveness of a digital pulmonary rehabilitation program for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in Southwest Finland. It aims to assess patient adherence, lung function, exercise capacity, quality of life, and the program's impact on healthcare utilization over a 12-week period, with follow-up assessments at 16 and 26 weeks. The program includes tailored exercise routines and nutritional counseling, addressing barriers to traditional rehabilitation methods exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are COPD patients with a documented diagnosis, expected survival of more than one year, and sufficient technical and language skills for participation.
Not a fit: Patients with severe comorbidities or those for whom remote rehabilitation may be unsafe will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could provide COPD patients with accessible rehabilitation options that improve their lung function and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in virtual rehabilitation approaches for COPD, indicating potential for success in this pilot study.
