What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of a health-enhancing intervention called Physical Activity on Prescription (PAP) for individuals with disabilities, including autism and intellectual disabilities. The intervention involves prescribing tailored physical activities such as walking, cycling, or swimming to increase physical activity levels and reduce sedentary behavior. The study aims to assess the feasibility and health benefits of PAP in a broader population than previously studied, focusing on children and youth in the Skåne Region of Sweden. Additionally, it will evaluate the cost-effectiveness of this intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children and adolescents aged 8 and older with physical or intellectual disabilities who are physically inactive.
Not a fit: Patients who are already meeting physical activity recommendations may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly enhance the physical activity levels and overall health of individuals with disabilities.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that PAP can effectively increase physical activity in children with cerebral palsy, suggesting potential success for this broader application.
