What this trial studies
This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of freeze-dried wild blueberry powder on cardiometabolic health, cognitive function, and gut microbiota in adult women with prediabetes. The study will involve a six-week randomized, placebo-controlled design where participants will consume either blueberry powder or a placebo daily. Researchers will measure changes in health parameters such as blood glucose levels, cognitive performance, and gut health to determine the effectiveness of blueberries as a dietary intervention. This research is significant as it addresses a gap in understanding the impact of blueberries on health outcomes specifically in women with prediabetes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 45-65 years with prediabetes and a body mass index between 25-30 kg/m².
Not a fit: Patients with allergies to berries, active cancer, or other significant health conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a natural dietary intervention to improve health outcomes for women with prediabetes.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies showing health benefits of blueberries in various populations, this specific approach in women with prediabetes is novel and has not been extensively tested.
