What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the factors influencing parents' decisions regarding their child's participation in therapeutic clinical trials within a pediatric cancer network. It will collect sociodemographic data and assess social determinants of health through surveys administered to parents or legal guardians of newly diagnosed pediatric oncology patients. The study will also investigate the associations between these factors and parents' attitudes towards clinical trial enrollment, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative methods for a comprehensive analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are English or Spanish speaking parents or legal guardians of children aged 0-18 with newly diagnosed cancer.
Not a fit: Parents of children with relapsed or recurrent cancer or benign neoplasms may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of barriers to clinical trial enrollment, leading to improved strategies for increasing participation in pediatric cancer research.
How similar studies have performed: While studies have explored parental attitudes towards clinical trials, this specific focus on sociodemographic factors and decision-making in a pediatric oncology context is relatively novel.
