Rutgers Genetics of Pulmonary Hypertension

Rutgers University Study of the Genetics of Pulmonary Hypertension

Observational Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey · NCT07217522

This online project will try to see if genetic differences affect the risk of pulmonary hypertension in U.S. adults, and anyone 18 or older can join whether or not they have PH.

What this trial studies

This online observational project collects short health surveys and a mailed saliva sample to study how genetic differences relate to pulmonary hypertension risk. Participation is remote, takes about 20 minutes, and does not require any clinic visits. Participants may optionally share electronic health records and can choose to receive genetic ancestry information at no cost. Investigators seek a diverse participant pool to make genetic findings more useful across populations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are adults (18+) living in the United States who can read English, access the internet, and are willing to complete online surveys and mail in a saliva DNA sample.

Not a fit: People under 18, non-U.S. residents, those unable to participate in English or without internet access, and anyone seeking immediate clinical treatment are unlikely to receive direct benefit from this research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the project could identify genetic risk factors that help guide future screening, prevention, and treatment research for pulmonary hypertension.

How similar studies have performed: Previous genetic studies have found genes linked to familial PAH (for example BMPR2), but large, diverse population-based genetic efforts for pulmonary hypertension remain an active area of research.
