What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the prognostic significance of the circumferential resection margin (CRM) in patients with esophageal cancer who have undergone esophagectomy. It focuses on patients with histologically confirmed esophageal adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, specifically those with pathologic staged T3 tumors. By analyzing the outcomes of these patients, the study aims to clarify the impact of CRM on survival rates, which remains a controversial topic in the field. The findings could provide valuable insights into the management of esophageal cancer post-surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients with histologically confirmed esophageal adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma who are undergoing esophagectomy and have pathologic staged T3 tumors.
Not a fit: Patients with earlier stage tumors (T0-2), T4 tumors, or those with other histologic types or evidence of distant metastasis may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve survival outcomes for patients with esophageal cancer by refining surgical approaches based on CRM significance.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored the prognostic factors in esophageal cancer, but the specific focus on CRM in this context may provide novel insights.
