What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate various published stroke scales used by ambulance paramedics in real-world settings. It will involve a multicenter cohort of approximately 3000 patients who have had a stroke code activated. Paramedics will complete an application for each patient before hospital arrival, which will include data necessary to reconstruct the stroke scales. The collected data will then be linked to in-hospital outcomes to assess the effectiveness of these scales in identifying strokes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients who have had a stroke code activated by ambulance services.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve the accuracy and speed of stroke identification by paramedics, leading to better patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on stroke scales, this approach of comparing multiple scales in a large, unselected patient sample in the field is relatively novel.
