National cohort study on knee issues in young people from the Faroe Islands
The Faroese Knee Cohort: An Investigation of Etiology and Long-term Implications of Trochlear Dysplasia and Patellar Dislocations
This study looks at young people in the Faroe Islands who have knee problems to see how common they are and what might cause them, while also checking how these issues affect their lives.

What this trial studies
The Faroese Knee Cohort aims to establish a national cohort of individuals aged 15-20 years with patellar instability or prior knee injuries, such as ACL ruptures or meniscus lesions. The study will investigate the prevalence of patellar dislocation and trochlear dysplasia, as well as risk factors and genetic components associated with these conditions. Participants will undergo MRI assessments to diagnose trochlear dysplasia and will be monitored for patellar dislocations and their impact on quality of life. The study focuses on understanding the long-term implications of these knee issues in a specific population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 15-20 from the Faroe Islands experiencing patellar instability or prior knee injuries.
Not a fit: Patients with terminal illnesses or mental disabilities that prevent them from participating in the study will not benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better understanding and management of knee instability and injuries in young individuals.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored knee conditions, this specific cohort approach focusing on a unique population is relatively novel.
