Investigating the impact of being a CF carrier on kidney and pancreatic health
The Effects of the CF Carrier State on the Kidneys and Pancreas
This study is trying to see if people who carry the cystic fibrosis gene are at a higher risk for kidney and pancreatic diseases compared to others.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the potential increased risk of kidney and pancreatic diseases among individuals who are carriers of the cystic fibrosis (CF) gene compared to the general population. Participants will undergo a clinic visit where they will provide height, weight, blood pressure measurements, and blood samples. Additionally, a subset of participants will collect urine and stool samples at home for further laboratory analysis. The study seeks to identify subclinical evidence of these conditions in CF carriers through comprehensive testing and surveys.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals identified as CF carriers through genetic testing and healthy controls without previous CF carrier test results.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently diagnosed with cystic fibrosis or those unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to early detection and management strategies for kidney and pancreatic disorders in CF carriers.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on CF carriers is novel, similar studies have indicated potential health risks associated with carrier states in other genetic conditions.
