Rutgers University Genetics of Kidney Disease

The Rutgers University Study of the Genetics of Kidney Disease

Observational Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey · NCT07217535

What this trial studies

This online observational project collects health survey responses and a saliva sample mailed from participants to study genetic links to kidney disease. Participation takes about 20 minutes, requires internet access, and does not require an office visit or a kidney disease diagnosis. Participants may optionally share electronic health record data and can receive free genetic ancestry information. The investigators aim for a diverse U.S. participant group to improve the usefulness of the genetic data.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older living in the United States who can read English, have internet access, and are willing to provide a mailed saliva sample and complete health surveys are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People under 18, those without internet access or unwilling to mail a saliva sample, and individuals seeking immediate medical treatment are unlikely to receive direct clinical benefits from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the project could identify genetic factors that help improve diagnosis, risk prediction, and future drug development for kidney disease.

How similar studies have performed: Large population genomic projects have previously linked genetic variants to kidney function and related traits, so this approach builds on established methods.
