Investigating biomarkers to predict chronic heart failure in older patients with type 2 diabetes
Biomarkers as Predictors of Chronic Heart Failure in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes
This study is trying to find specific markers in the blood that can help predict if older people with type 2 diabetes will develop chronic heart failure, so they can be monitored and treated early.

What this trial studies
This observational cohort study aims to evaluate potential biomarkers that may predict the onset of chronic heart failure in patients aged over 50 with type 2 diabetes who do not have known heart disease. The study will involve 500 participants who will undergo assessments including echocardiography, ECG, blood tests for various biomarkers, and a 6-minute walk test at the time of inclusion and annually thereafter. By identifying these biomarkers, the study seeks to enhance early detection and management of chronic heart failure in this high-risk population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged over 50 with type 2 diabetes and no history of heart disease.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of acute or chronic heart failure or ischemic heart disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved early detection and management strategies for chronic heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is not widely tested, similar studies have shown promise in identifying biomarkers for heart conditions in diabetic populations.
