Improving medication adherence in patients with uncontrolled hypertension using urine tests
Utility of Urine Mass Spectrometry Analysis in Addressing Medication Non-adherence in Patients With Poorly Controlled Hypertension

What this trial studies
This study aims to address the issue of medication non-adherence in patients with poorly controlled hypertension by utilizing urine mass spectrometry to assess adherence to antihypertensive medications. The approach involves a three-step process: first, a retrospective analysis of medication adherence in patients recently admitted for stroke; second, a prospective recruitment of participants with uncontrolled hypertension; and third, counseling for those identified as non-adherent, followed by reassessment of their medication adherence and blood pressure levels. This method is convenient, non-invasive, and cost-effective, making it suitable for clinical settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 21 to 80 who have poorly controlled hypertension and are currently taking two or more antihypertensive medications.
Not a fit: Patients with significant kidney impairment or chronic liver disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved blood pressure control and reduced healthcare costs for patients with hypertension.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using urine tests for medication adherence, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially effective.
