What this trial studies
This observational study assesses the postoperative outcomes of women who have undergone mastectomy and tissue expander placement for breast cancer. It compares the experiences of patients admitted to the innovative Care Hotel at Mayo Clinic Florida, which offers a comfortable environment with nursing care and virtual monitoring, against those who are either discharged home or admitted to a standard hospital. The study aims to identify any postoperative complications and gather patient satisfaction data through medical record reviews and surveys.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are women who have undergone mastectomy followed by tissue expander reconstruction for breast cancer or high-risk gene mutation prophylaxis.
Not a fit: Patients younger than 18 years old will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance patient recovery experiences and outcomes after mastectomy procedures.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific model of care is innovative, similar studies evaluating postoperative outcomes in alternative care settings have shown promising results.
