What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to assess the oxygenation levels in the colon of individuals with acquired vascular abnormalities, such as angiodysplasia and AVMs, compared to healthy controls. The study focuses on understanding the potential link between chronic hypoxia and the development of these vascular lesions, which can lead to significant gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia. Participants will undergo standard colonoscopy procedures to evaluate their condition and oxygen saturation levels in the colon.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 18 to 89 with a history of vascular lesions in the colon or those with a healthy colon.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years, over 90 years, or those with specific colon ulcerations or previous colon surgeries may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of vascular lesions in the colon, potentially reducing complications like bleeding and anemia.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of evaluating oxygenation in vascular lesions is novel, related studies on vascular abnormalities have shown varying degrees of success.
