What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of Energy Therapy, specifically Pranic Healing, in alleviating chronic pain in pediatric and adolescent patients suffering from conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Chronic Pancreatitis. The research will be conducted at King's College Hospital, focusing on patients aged 5 to 18 years who experience chronic pain related to their medical conditions. The study employs a longitudinal, controlled, non-randomized design to assess both qualitative and quantitative outcomes of this non-pharmacological intervention. Participants will be recruited from gastroenterology and hepatology clinics, and their families will be informed about the study through various communication methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children and adolescents aged 5-18 years with chronic pain associated with medical conditions like Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Chronic Pancreatitis.
Not a fit: Patients under 5 years of age or over 18 years, as well as those without symptoms of pain, will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could provide a non-invasive alternative for managing chronic pain in young patients, improving their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of energy therapies is gaining interest, this specific approach has not been widely tested in similar populations, making it a novel investigation.
