Developing an AI tool to predict embryo quality from time‑lapse incubator images

Multicenter Data Collection and Simulated-Use Assessment for CHLOE

What this trial studies

This observational protocol collects high‑quality time‑lapse images and related clinical data from eggs and embryos cultured in a connected incubator to train and validate an embryo‑quality AI model. The data will be used for machine‑learning development, verification, and validation, not for direct clinical decision‑making. Professional simulated‑use sessions with embryologists will evaluate the user interface and workflow to ensure correct and easy use of the AI application. The work is developmental and aims to improve future AI‑based tools used in IVF care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Women aged 18 or older undergoing IVF or egg‑freezing whose eggs or embryos are cultured in a time‑lapse incubator and have available images are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People whose embryos are not cultured in a compatible time‑lapse incubator, those under 18, or those without available embryo images are not eligible and are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the AI could help embryologists select embryos more consistently and accurately, which may improve IVF success rates and shorten time to pregnancy.

How similar studies have performed: Similar AI approaches for embryo selection have shown promising early results in retrospective and observational reports, but they require larger prospective validation before routine clinical use.
