What this trial studies
This randomized controlled experiment uses a pre-test/post-test design with 5th and 6th graders from schools affiliated with the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education. The experimental group will receive an educational program themed around nature and recycling that integrates creative drama activities and gamified learning, while the control group receives no intervention during the study period. Outcomes include changes in nature connectedness and observed or self-reported recycling behaviors measured before and after the program. Data will be compared between groups to determine whether the intervention produces measurable behavioral or attitudinal change.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are male or female students aged 10–12 enrolled in 5th or 6th grade at schools under the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education who have parental consent and can attend all sessions.
Not a fit: Children outside the 10–12 age range, those not enrolled in the participating schools, those unable to attend sessions, or children who already have very high nature connectedness may be less likely to benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could strengthen children's emotional bond with nature and increase recycling behaviors, supporting longer-term pro-environment habits.
How similar studies have performed: Previous work using drama or gamification separately has shown promise for improving environmental attitudes and engagement in young people, but combining both methods is less commonly tested.
