What this trial studies
This mixed-methods project uses a gamified metaverse-based educational application to teach patient safety to second-year nursing students. The quantitative phase includes intervention and control groups with pre-test, post-test, and a one-month retention test conducted between February and May 2026. A qualitative component gathers student opinions about the metaverse training to explore usability and learning experience. Primary outcomes include patient safety competencies, knowledge retention, and participant feedback.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Second-year undergraduate nursing students at Baskent University who speak Turkish, have normal hearing/vision/speech, and voluntarily agree to participate are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Students who withdraw, stop using the metaverse space, submit incomplete data, or who do not meet the second-year Turkish-speaking criteria are unlikely to benefit from the intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the training could strengthen nursing students' patient safety skills and ultimately reduce preventable patient harm such as medication errors and unsafe procedures.
How similar studies have performed: Prior gamification and virtual-reality education studies in nursing have shown improved engagement and skill retention, but gamified metaverse platforms remain relatively novel with limited direct evidence.
