What this trial studies

This study involves recruiting individuals eligible for kidney transplants and randomly assigning them to either a control group or an interventional counseling group. The control group will complete a simple survey, while the interventional group will participate in group education and counseling sessions that include their social support networks. Both groups will complete pre and post surveys to assess the impact of the counseling intervention. The data will be collected and managed using REDCAP.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are English-speaking individuals aged 18 and older who are deemed suitable for kidney transplant evaluation and willing to involve at least two members of their social support network.

Not a fit: Patients who are non-English speaking, pregnant, or unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the emotional and social support for kidney transplant candidates, potentially improving their overall outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While similar counseling interventions have shown promise in enhancing patient support and outcomes, this specific approach is relatively novel.
