What this trial studies

The Partners Calciphylaxis Biobank aims to enhance understanding of calciphylaxis, a rare vascular calcification disorder, by collecting and storing patient samples. This observational study focuses on identifying the pathophysiology and risk factors associated with calciphylaxis, which currently lacks effective treatment options. By collaborating with the Partners Biobank, the study will utilize existing infrastructure to support patient consent and sample collection, thereby addressing significant gaps in calciphylaxis research.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with skin lesions indicative of calciphylaxis.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those who are prisoners will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this biobank could lead to improved understanding and potential future treatments for patients suffering from calciphylaxis.

How similar studies have performed: While calciphylaxis is a rare condition with limited research, the collaborative biobank approach has shown promise in other rare disease studies.
