What this trial studies
This study investigates the physical and mental health needs of collegiate athletes, focusing on their support requirements during and after their sports careers. It employs an online anonymous survey to gather quantitative data from 200 athletes and conducts qualitative focus groups with 50 athletes who are nearing retirement or have recently retired. The goal is to identify the specific support needed for athletes as they transition out of sport. By understanding these needs, the study aims to inform better support systems for athletes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are current and former collegiate athletes over the age of 18 who are within two years of leaving sport or within five years after leaving sport.
Not a fit: Patients who are under the age of 18 or not within the specified time frame of leaving sport will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved support systems for collegiate athletes during their transition out of sports.
How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies focusing on athlete support, this specific approach of combining quantitative surveys with qualitative focus groups is relatively novel.
