What this trial studies

The UAB Cardiovascular Research Biobank (CARBON) aims to collect and store biological materials, such as DNA and blood samples, along with health and personal information from a large population over time. This resource will enable researchers to investigate the relationships between genetic factors and various cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, diabetes, and obesity. By analyzing the data, researchers hope to identify risk factors and develop new strategies for prevention and treatment of these conditions. The biobank will also facilitate studies on how genetic differences affect individual responses to treatments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who are interested in contributing to cardiovascular research.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, pregnant women, and those associated with the Division of Cardiovascular Disease at UAB may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this biobank could lead to improved detection, treatment, and prevention strategies for cardiovascular diseases and related conditions.

How similar studies have performed: Other biobanks have shown success in advancing research in cardiovascular diseases and related conditions, making this approach promising.
