What this trial studies
This project aims to develop and test a Youth Engagement (YE) prevention strategy for substance misuse, particularly focusing on opioid use among adolescents and young adults. In the first phase, a pilot open trial will be conducted to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the YE strategy within a community-based organization. The second phase will involve a randomized controlled trial where four organizations will be assigned to either implement the YE strategy or serve as a control group. The study will evaluate the effectiveness of engaging youth in prevention efforts to reduce substance misuse.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adolescents and young adults aged 11 to 29 who are involved with community organizations focused on opioid misuse prevention.
Not a fit: Patients who are part of organizations already implementing a high level of Youth Engagement in their prevention work may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce substance misuse among adolescents and young adults by fostering their engagement in community prevention efforts.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of organization-level Youth Engagement is novel, similar studies have shown promise in engaging youth in prevention strategies.
