What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the impact of a weight loss intervention program on functional gastrointestinal disorders in overweight and obese children aged 6-18 years. Participants will be recruited from the child health and sport center at Meir Medical Center in Kfar-Saba, Israel, and will include both obese children and healthy controls. The study will involve regular assessments of body measurements, exercise capability, and quality of life through validated questionnaires over a 6-month period. The goal is to compare outcomes between those who successfully lose weight and those who do not, as well as against healthy controls.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are overweight or obese children aged 6-18 years with a BMI percentile of 85% or higher.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic non-functional gastrointestinal conditions, such as Celiac disease or inflammatory bowel disease, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could improve gastrointestinal health and overall well-being in obese children.
How similar studies have performed: While similar lifestyle intervention programs have shown promise in managing obesity and related conditions, this specific approach in the pediatric population is less commonly explored.
