What this trial studies
This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of regular resistance exercise during early pregnancy to prevent gestational diabetes mellitus in overweight or obese pregnant women. Given the rising prevalence of obesity and its associated risks during pregnancy, the study focuses on how physical activity can mitigate these risks. The intervention involves structured resistance exercise, which may improve various health markers and enhance adherence compared to traditional aerobic exercises. The study will assess the outcomes related to gestational diabetes and other pregnancy complications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are pregnant women with a BMI of 25 kg/m2 or higher who are in their first trimester.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic hypertension, pre-existing diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or a history of preterm delivery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the incidence of gestational diabetes and improve pregnancy outcomes for overweight and obese women.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with exercise interventions in pregnant populations, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
