What this trial studies
This study investigates the use of cryotherapy as a minimally invasive treatment for desmoid tumors, which are benign neoplasms known for their unpredictable behavior and high recurrence rates after surgical intervention. The approach aims to provide an alternative to chemotherapy, particularly for younger patients, by utilizing cryotherapy to target the tumors directly. Participants will include adults diagnosed with abdominal and extra-abdominal desmoid tumors, while those with contraindications or specific tumor locations will be excluded. The study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of this treatment method.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old with a histologic diagnosis of abdominal or extra-abdominal desmoid tumors.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to cryotherapy or those with retroperitoneal desmoid tumors may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could provide a safer, less invasive treatment option for patients with desmoid tumors, reducing the need for chemotherapy.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of cryotherapy for desmoid tumors is a novel approach, similar minimally invasive techniques have shown promise in treating other tumor types.
