Using a virtual simulation game to teach central venous catheter care to nursing students
Effect of Virtual Simulation Games on Nursing Students' Knowledge, Skills, Confidence and Satisfaction in CVC Care
NA · Ankara University · NCT07378384

What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial will compare a virtual simulation game-based training program with standard nursing education among university nursing students. Participants will be randomized to receive the game-based training or usual instruction, with sessions delivered at the university site. Knowledge, clinical skills, self-confidence, and satisfaction will be measured before and after training using validated tools. The game content covers evidence-based CVC care, infection prevention, clinical decision-making, and error awareness in a safe simulated environment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal participants are nursing students enrolled in the university's Fundamentals of Nursing course who volunteer and can understand Turkish.
Not a fit: Students who already have a health-related degree, have completed the fundamentals course, or cannot understand Turkish are unlikely to benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve nurses' competence in central venous catheter care and help reduce errors and infection risk for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research using virtual simulation in nursing education has shown improved knowledge and confidence, although evidence specifically for game-based CVC training is still emerging.
