Understanding locoregional recurrence in advanced colon cancer

A Translational Study for Locoregional Recurrence of T4 Colon Cancer

What this trial studies

This observational study investigates the poor outcomes associated with locoregional recurrence in T4 colon cancer. It aims to explore the clinicopathology, metastatic mechanisms, and cancer biology of T4 colorectal cancer, particularly focusing on the hypothesis that peritoneal spreading may be a significant metastatic route. The study will analyze serum epigenetic alterations and cell-free DNA as potential prognostic markers for patients with stage II and III colon cancer who have undergone radical or palliative colectomy.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with colorectal cancer who are scheduled for radical or palliative colectomy.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years old, pregnant individuals, those on peritoneal dialysis, or those unwilling to undergo colorectal surgery may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of T4 colon cancer, potentially enhancing patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While this study addresses a less explored area of T4 colon cancer, previous research has indicated that serum epigenetic alterations and cell-free DNA can serve as prognostic markers, suggesting some foundational success in related studies.
