What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the neural activity associated with psychiatric and memory disorders by collecting resting state local field potential recordings from patients with medically refractory epilepsy. Participants will have depth electrodes implanted for seizure localization, and their neural activity will be correlated with psychiatric symptoms assessed through questionnaires. Additionally, subjects may engage in neurocognitive tasks and receive neural stimulation during recordings. The goal is to enhance understanding of disordered neural activity, potentially leading to improved diagnostic and treatment methods for neuropsychiatric conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who are undergoing SEEG monitoring at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those unable to complete questionnaires may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to novel diagnostic and treatment approaches for patients with psychiatric disorders.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies exploring neural correlates of psychiatric disorders have shown promise in understanding brain activity.
