What this trial studies

This interventional program integrates structured sailing sessions into psychosocial rehabilitation for adults with psychiatric or neurodevelopmental or neurodevelopmental disorders managed by the Ville-Evrard psychosocial rehabilitation unit. Participants who live in the Seine-Saint-Denis department and meet inclusion criteria will take part in supervised sailing activities run in partnership with the local departmental sailing committee, alongside their usual care. Medical clearance to sail and basic French literacy are required, and clinical and functional outcomes will be measured before and after the intervention to document changes in social functioning and rehabilitation engagement. The protocol formalizes four years of local experience and aims to share results within the psychiatric care community.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (18+) living in Seine-Saint-Denis with a psychiatric or neurodevelopmental disorder who are supported by the RPS 93 platform, are recently clinically stabilized, can read and write French, and can obtain a medical certificate clearing them for sailing are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with active psychiatric decompensation, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those unable to obtain medical fitness to sail, unable to read/write French, or living outside the 93 are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, adding sailing could improve social participation, autonomy, and overall well-being as a non-drug therapeutic option in psychosocial rehabilitation.

How similar studies have performed: Sailing has been used as a therapeutic intervention in settings such as Italy and at the local UNIRRE 93 unit since 2021, but rigorous controlled evidence remains limited.
